To mark the centenary of its foundation, Afi Esca relocated its Milan headquarters to a historic building on Foro Buonaparte. The project was tasked with balancing the identity of a company with more than one hundred years of history with the need to support contemporary ways of working through functional, comfortable and representative spaces.
Making the Most of What Already Exists
The building offered an architectural setting of considerable character, defined by original flooring, decorative wood panelling and historic mouldings. The project was driven by the desire to preserve and enhance these features, integrating them into a contemporary workplace while respecting their original character.
A Delicate Balance
The compact dimensions of the rooms and the building's original layout required careful planning and organisation. The challenge was to respect the historic configuration of the property while ensuring operational efficiency and comfort for employees. Flexible storage solutions, integrated workstations and a thoughtful approach to circulation helped achieve this balance.
A Collaborative Process
The project evolved through continuous dialogue with the client, who played an active role in shaping key design decisions. This close collaboration made it possible to accurately interpret the values of solidity, reliability and proximity that define the identity of Afi Esca.
